Did it shock you? It should because what is the essence of a business without sales? Nothing. Really, nothing.
But if you’re used to traditional methods of selling, you’d have seen the below methods.
Conviction – Convincing your customer to buy using whatever means possible. Be it sweet tongue, hype or outright lie.
Emotional Triggers: “Please buy from me so me and my poor kids can see food to eat today”, “Please buy from me so i don’t do prostitution. I am a struggling student”, “Please patronize so i don’t end up doing fraud or stealing”. – You must have come across sales pitches like these ones at one time, on social media.
FOMO: Fear of missing out. Threaten your customers that if they don’t buy this thing you’re selling now, they would never get it again.
These are all traditional ways people sell. It might work, it might not. There are varying degrees of success.
But there’s a much better way of selling. One that works better and is more in line with new social media trends.
Not just social media. This is the new way of selling.
Companies, global brands, SMEs are beginning to see the need to adopt this method and in fact are already leveraging it.
CUSTOMER, AUDIENCE, LEADS…..
Those are your bosses. Your marketing should consist of conceding control to them.
Yes. let them take charge. The key is in never selling for them but giving them the option of – It’s either you or you.
Weird ba? With the right content, your positioning to the customer should leave them with sole control of decision making. By doing so, instead of selling to them and convincing them to buy, you should instead show them what is best for them.
Everyone HATES being convinced. You buy something from the market, get home and feel like you were jazzed into buying it. You start regretting. Most times, you do not even need that product.
While that guy has played a fast one and sold it to you, the disadvantage is that you would most likely not be returning to him. You want a brand and business that you can trust and fully rely on.
